The pitting Powerbook
Savage pitting!
A few of you will have heard of this downside with aluminum PowerBooks — corrosion or “pitting” of the aluminum floor to the left and proper of the trackpad space. However you have by no means seen a worse case than my poor little 12″ PowerBook. I purchased the machine in October 2003. Inside 6 months the spots had emerged; as I approached the top of my 1-year guarantee interval (no Applecare) that they had progressed to the superior stage proven within the images under. Apple Pc kindly repaired my downside below guarantee. My palmrests turned glossy once more and the corroded half was despatched again to Apple for “evaluation” or one thing.
A yr after the restore (October 2005), important pitting was seen once more. Up to date images to come back. It is now not my main machine, having been changed by a 15″ mannequin (with Applecare!) which I’m striving to guard from an identical destiny.
The epicenters of the 2 downside areas map to the bases of my palms at relaxation. Apparently my physique chemistry is on the caustic facet — should be all these Bitter Patch Children.
And I have never given up on that concept of a sideline enterprise that makes substitute palmrests from birch veneer.
